System Safety Engineer

There is an immediate need for a Mid-Senior-level System Safety Engineer to perform systems engineering analysis and technical support services in system safety for the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD). These efforts include safety risk assessment for a variety of combat and weapon related systems and operations in various acquisition life cycle phases. The contractor shall perform weapon system safety studies, analyses, investigations, audits, project management, and project management support to assist on assigned projects to determine and communicate the level of risk associated with systems.  The candidate requires an active or inactive SECRET level security clearance. It is preferred that the candidate resides or is willing to relocate to within 60 miles or one hour commuting distance from NSWC Dahlgren (King George, VA).  Radar systems experience is preferred (added 11/20/18).  The position will be require to support/participate in meetings at the base or an office located near the base but will also be able to work remotely (i.e., from home) when not attending meetings. Specific education, professional qualifications, and experience required are:

Education/Professional Qualifications – A Bachelor’s of Science (BS) degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering, scientific, business, or technical discipline OR US Naval operational experience at the E-7 level or higher.
General Experience – Five (5) to ten (10) years of professional or operational experience in systems engineering for DoD weapon system programs.
Specialized Experience – Three (3) to five (5) years of qualified experience as a System Safety Engineer in DoD system engineering processes in performing tasks focused on the development of system safety analysis by identifying, documenting, and tracking resolutions of safety anomalies. Experience in coordinating, developing, and executing, of comprehensive technical data packages, Safety Assessment Reports, Preliminary Hazard List, Preliminary Hazard Analysis, Subsystem Hazard Analysis, System Hazard Analysis, Operating and Support Hazard Analysis, Health Hazard Assessment, System Requirement Hazard Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis. Experience in the development and coordination of presentations; to support the Weapon System Explosives Safety Review Board and its Technical Panels, Laser Safety Review Board, and the Department of Defense and the Department of Navy Insensitive Munitions Reviews.
